We’d recognize that silhouette anywhere. To kick off its Geeked Week—a five-day smorgasbord of promotional whatnots for various upcoming SFF shows and movies—Netflix provided a first look at Wednesday in the form of its star, Jenna Ortega, in Wednesday Addams’ classic outfit. Braids, collar, stoic yet murderous expression: check, check, check.
The show’s punchy little summary reads:
From the imagination of Tim Burton comes Wednesday—a twisted new series coming soon to Netflix. Wednesday—starring Jenna Ortega in the title role, alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzman, Gwendoline Christie, Christina Ricci and more—is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Snap snap.
Burton directs most of the series’ eight episodes and is an executive producer, but he didn’t create Wednesday; it comes from the minds of showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar (the duo behind Smallville, Into the Badlands, and Shannara Chronicles) and is based, of course, on the work of artist Charles Addams. Zeta-Jones plays Addams matriarch Morticia; Luis Guzmán is her beloved Gomez; Isaac Ordonez is the other Addams child, Pugsley; Gwendoline Christine is the headmaster at Nevermore Academy; and the ’90s Wednesday herself, Christina Ricci, will appear in a still-mysterious role.
Netflix has yet to announce a premiere date for the series, but it’s expected this year.
